“We can beat this disease. We can win this fight. We just have to keep at it, today, tomorrow, and every day until we get to zero…that has to be our promise to each other; because we have come so far; we have saved so many lives; let’s finish the fight.”
Since its discovery, AIDS has led to nearly 30 million deaths around the world. For many years, being infected with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, meant an inevitable death sentence.
But today with new treatment and prevention efforts, people with HIV can live long, healthy lives without full-blown AIDS. In fact, for the first time ever, scientists and world leaders have declared that we are on the brink of the end of AIDS.
However, we may not reach that point. Lack of political will and shortage of funding have forced scale back of AIDS programs and treatment. Even though much time and effort has been invested on the issue, 34 million people live with HIV/AIDS, 2.7 million are newly infected with HIV each year, and 1.8 million died of AIDS-related illnesses in 2010.
These deaths are avoidable and unacceptable. We now know what it takes to stop AIDS. Recent research shows that treatment prevents transmission of the disease to newborn babies and reduces transmission among partners by up to 96%.
The problem right now is that 7 million people aren’t able to get treatment. Because it is effective and cheaper today, if treatment is provided to everyone in need we will be in a position to finally end AIDS.
We want to produce a film that will help end AIDS. The "End of AIDS” is a 25-minute film that is a call to action and centerpiece for a social media campaign to end AIDS. Partnering with established AIDS organizations including Partners in Health and Health GAP, this film will be released in time for World AIDS Day 2012 in December.
While most individuals understand the severity of the AIDS epidemic, many are unaware of the recent strides in treatment and prevention. While treatments exist and the path to successfully ending AIDS has been identified, this message and information needs to be synthesized in a narrative that is compelling and interesting for the average individual.
We believe that a compelling social media campaign focused on the end of AIDS can bring this global epidemic back to the forefront of the public conversation, provide a common message for world leaders, health activists and the public to coalesce around, and ultimately lead to renewed commitments from governments, donors, and the private sector.
The Jubilee Project is a video production group made up of Eddie, Jason, and Eric that makes videos to raise awareness and fundraise for philanthropic causes. Since our inception in January 2010, we have created 70 videos, raised $30,000 for 15 non- profit organizations, and garnered over four million views on YouTube. We believe that #DoingGoodisContagious.
Our film will be available to the public for FREE through online media outlets including YouTube! Sign up for our mailing list to be the first to know when it's released.
Money raised from CauseVox will go towards producing “End of AIDS” in the coming year, video equipment, travel costs, editing and graphic production and general distribution. We've budgeted for our total production cost to be $86,603. The Jubilee Project is fiscall sponsored by Health Gap and all donations are tax-deductible. For a tax-deductible donation or detailed proposal, please email us at project.jubilee (at) gmail.com.
By backing this project, you’re joining the Jubilee Project and countless others in this fight to end AIDS in our lifetime.
